An uncommon early spear with a broad 7.25 inch wide fluted iron head Likely 19th century, possibly first quarter of the 20th century. The impressive 17.5 inch long iron head is socketed onto a hardwood shaft and tightly bound with its original woven rattan binding which is accented with red. The spear was used for warfare, protection, and prestige. The lower half of the wood shaft is missing and the left Iron barb is slightly bent. The wood shaft has acquired a dark rich varied patina from age and use. For a similar example, see page 112 of "Form and Splendor" by Roberto Maramba (Copyright 1998).
